If you ordered the Sunburst, you can offer the colony a small drop (yellow bottle) on the feeding tray 2 to 3 times a week. This will also have a longer shelf life.

Lasius niger is a species in the Formicinae subfamily. These ants are very easy to keep and don't place high demands on their environment. They are also very stress-resistant. This makes them an ideal starter species.
