Atta mexicana is a special and beautiful species from the Myrmicinae subfamily; they cultivate fungi. They cut many different types of leaves, which they then feed to the fungi. It's a difficult and especially challenging species, but once you've created the right conditions and the colony is thriving, it can certainly succeed.

Temperature . Keep the nest temperature between 23°C and 26°C. In the wild, leafcutter ants are accustomed to an extremely stable temperature that fluctuates around 1°C underground year-round. The most important thing, however, is to measure the temperature where the fungus is located. Many people measure the temperature in the enclosure, and this is never accurate. You'll need a thermometer with a probe that you can place in the nest. This is the only accurate way to measure the ants' temperature.

Humidity. The humidity of your nest is crucial for the health of the colony. You should aim for a relative humidity as close to 100% as possible. Many sources will tell you that anything above 80% is fine. This is not the case. You should also measure this humidity directly where the mold is located. A distance of a few centimeters can reduce the accuracy of the humidity measurement by many percent. Keep in mind that any cold surface acts as a dehumidifier, converting water vapor in the air back into liquid water. This means that the front viewing window of your exhibit, which is normally the coldest part of your exhibit, will likely become covered in condensation, obstructing your view. Don't be tempted to lower the humidity to prevent this.

Which ant species would you like in our range?

Buy Atta Mexicana

Buying an Atta mexicana colony means you're bringing an ant into your home that originates from Mexico and Arizona (USA). However, you're primarily bringing an ant into your home that can grow very large and for whom stability is crucial. Buying an Atta mexicana colony can be an alternative to buying an Acromyrmex octospinosus colony. Both ants have similarities, especially in the space they ultimately occupy. Don't be mistaken, Atta mexicana colonies can grow to several million workers and several liters of mold, so keep this in mind!

The queen can easily grow to 29 millimeters

By buying an Atta Mexicana colony, you're acquiring a giant ant. The queen, for example, can easily reach 29 millimeters. Of course, the worker ant colonies are considerably smaller, measuring between 3 and 16 millimeters. The soldiers, however, are also quite large, measuring between 18 and 23 millimeters. You'll enjoy this ant species year-round. Unlike many other ant species, they don't hibernate.

The ant does well in a cylinder nest

If you choose to buy an Atta Mexicana colony, you'll also need to buy a cylinder nest. Ants thrive in these. Ants also thrive in temperatures between 23 and 26 degrees Celsius. Ideally, the temperature should be kept at a constant 26 degrees Celsius. Also, pay particular attention to humidity, which ideally should be between 95 and 99 percent.

Buying an atta mexicana: you bring a real leaf cutter into your home

If you decide to buy an Atta Mexicana colony, be aware that the ant needs a very stable temperature and humidity. If you manage that, you'll have a special and beautiful ant species at your disposal. This ant is also considered a fungus cultivator. The ant processes various types of leaves and then feeds them to the fungi. The ant is a true leaf cutter. In the wild, the ant is accustomed to an extremely constant temperature. To monitor the temperature accurately, measure it at the location where the fungus is located. Avoid measuring the temperature in the enclosure, as you'll never get accurate readings.

A challenge for the experienced ant keeper

It's therefore crucial to always maintain a constant temperature and, above all, monitor the humidity. It's essential for keeping this ant species. This makes it a challenge for the more experienced ant keeper. Beginners are not advised to choose this ant.

A really great store.

Ordered something three times in the past month and a half. Good and quick answers to questions via chat and the Camponotus Nicobarensis colony was well packaged and arrived healthy (with workers and brood).
Zane
I recently ordered ants (Camponotus Cruentatus species)
They arrived very healthy and are already living in their formicarium with the outside world they love the food I put in them.
I use the beetlejelly cups, which is what my ants like best.
A jelly cup is large and can last a very long time.
If they need a little bit of protein, I use a bowl of mealworms that were also ordered from here.
I am very satisfied and recommend this store to everyone.

Mohammed
very good quality, the queen arrived alive and healthy.

There was plenty of seed and there were many larvae and brood. The colony had 13 workers at the time of delivery. A really fun species to keep and it is definitely worth stealing this and observing the ants. Definitely worth the small amount. Tip: look very carefully and keep them in one place as much as possible, they are very sensitive
Evan
Ordered fruit flies yesterday and they arrived today by letter. Very good quality and service! I'll be ordering some more food soon :)

Ordered a colony a few days ago, it was well packed and delivered quickly. There were slightly fewer ants than ordered, as Perry himself had indicated. I believe that's why he gave extra Beatlejelly. Really top service, definitely recommended!

Today I received my colony of Aphaenogaster gibbosa after some delay at Post.nl.

But after a phone call with Quality ants, I was reassured that the animals would arrive safely. This is top business.
