Please note: ensure the correct and stable temperature and humidity

Atta mexicana is a special and beautiful species from the subfamily Myrmicinae, because they grow fungi. They cut many different types of leaves which they then feed to the fungi. It is a difficult and especially a challenging species, but once you have created the right conditions and the colony is running well, it could certainly succeed.

Temperature . Keep the nest temperature between 23C and 26C. In the wild, leafcutters are accustomed to an extremely stable temperature that varies around 1C underground all year round. The most important thing, however, is that you measure the temperature where the mold is located. Many people measure the temperature inside the housing and this is never accurate. You will need a thermometer with a probe that you can place in the nest. This is the only accurate way to measure the ants' temperature.

Humidity. The humidity of your nest is critical to the health of the colony. You try to get the relative humidity as close to 100% as possible. Many sources will tell you that anything above 80% is fine. This is not the case. You must also measure this humidity directly where the mold is located. A distance of a few cm can reduce the accuracy of the humidity measurement by many percent. Keep in mind that any cold surface acts as a dehumidifier, converting water vapor in the air back into liquid water. This means that the front viewing glass of your exhibit, which is normally the coldest part of your exhibit, is likely to become covered in condensation that obscures the view. Don't be tempted to lower the humidity to prevent this.

Which ant species would you like in our range?

Buy atta mexicana

Buying an atta mexicana colony means that you acquire an ant that comes from Mexico and Arizona (USA). However, you are mainly bringing into your home an ant that can grow very large and for whom stability is extremely important. Buying an atta mexicana colony can be an alternative to buying an acromyrmex octospinosus colony. Both ants have common ground. Especially in terms of space that they ultimately use. Because make no mistake, the Atta mexicana colonies can grow to a few million workers and several liters of mold, so keep this in mind!

The queen can easily grow to 29 millimeters

By buying an atta mexicana colony, you are buying a giant ant. For example, the queen can easily grow to 29 millimeters. Of course, the workers are a lot smaller, measuring between 3 and 16 millimeters. The soldiers, however, are also on the large side with dimensions between 18 and 23 millimeters. You can enjoy this ant species all year round. Unlike many other species, they do not hibernate.

The ant does well in a cylinder nest

If you choose to buy an atta mexicana colony, you also need to buy a cylinder nest. That's where the ants thrive best. The ants also thrive in a temperature between 23 and 26 degrees. In the optimal situation you keep the temperature constant at 26 degrees. Pay particular attention to the humidity, which is ideally between 95 and 99 percent.

Buying an atta mexicana: you get a real leaf cutter

If you decide to buy an atta mexicana colony, know that the ant must be exposed to a very stable temperature and humidity. If you get this right, you will have access to a special and beautiful species of ants. This ant is also considered a fungus grower. The ant processes various types of leaves and then feeds them to the fungi. The ant is considered a real leaf cutter. In the wild, the mer is used to an extremely constant temperature. If you want to monitor the temperature properly, measure the value where the mold is located. Do not measure the temperature inside the housing, because then you will never get accurate measurements.

A challenge for the experienced ant keeper

It is therefore extremely important to always ensure a constant temperature and certainly to keep an eye on the humidity. It is an absolute condition for keeping this ant species. That makes it a challenge for the more experienced ant keeper. The beginner would not be wise to choose this ant.

I recently ordered ants (Camponotus Cruentatus species)
They arrived very healthy and are already living in their formicarium with the outside world they love the food I put in them.
I use the beetlejelly cups, which is what my ants like best.
A jelly cup is large and can last a very long time.
If they need a little bit of protein, I use a bowl of mealworms that were also ordered from here.
I am very satisfied and recommend this store to everyone.

very good quality, the queen arrived alive and healthy.

There was plenty of seed and there were many larvae and brood. The colony had 13 workers at the time of delivery. A really fun species to keep and it is definitely worth stealing this and observing the ants. Definitely worth the small amount. Tip: look very carefully and keep them in one place as much as possible, they are very sensitive

Ordered a colony a few days ago, it was well packed and delivered quickly. There were slightly fewer ants than ordered, as Perry himself had indicated. I believe that's why he gave extra Beatlejelly. Really top service, definitely recommended!
