This nest with external worlds is specially designed to gradually provide a starting colony with more and more living space. Initially, the colony can settle in the test tube and collect food through the small external world attached to the test tube, which also provides access to one corridor of the nest and the larger external world. The rest of the nest is still sealed and can easily be opened when the colony is large enough and needs more space, for example, starting with 50 workers (depending on the species).
