Shelfordella lateralis, often also called Blatta lateralis or Redrunners, are rich in protein and have a soft chitin shell. Available from 4-35 millimeters, a size to suit every insect eater. Popular food animals for ants, but especially for reptiles, amphibians and arthropods.
These food animals are often chosen because of their longer lifespan than other food animals, they cannot climb on slippery surfaces such as glass or plastic, do not make burrows and are very active, making them very attractive prey.
They have a much higher nutritional value than, for example, fruit flies, grasshoppers or crickets.
Redrunners can be kept around room temperature and fed with some vegetables.
