Shelfordella lateralis, often also called Blatta lateralis or Redrunners, are rich in protein and have a soft chitin shell. Available from 4-35 millimeters, a size to suit every insect eater. Popular food animals for ants, but especially for reptiles, amphibians and arthropods.
These cockroaches are often chosen because they have a longer lifespan than other prey animals, they cannot climb on smooth surfaces like glass or plastic, they do not burrow, and they are very active, making them very attractive prey.
They have a much higher nutritional value than, for example, fruit flies, grasshoppers or crickets.
Redrunners can be kept around room temperature and fed with some vegetables.
