Buying the lasius flavus is like buying a European ant. The queen is a bit on the small side with a length between 7 and 9 millimeters. There are no soldiers, but the workers grow to between 3 and 5 millimeters in length. The ants hibernate from December to March, ideally at a temperature somewhere between 5 and 10 degrees Celsius. The ants do well when the temperature is between 17 and 28 degrees Celsius and the ideal temperature is around 23 and 26 degrees. If you decide to buy the lasius flavus, different nest types are possible. You can choose a ytong nest or a plaster nest. It is also an easy ant species in terms of nutrition. You are doing them a favor by feeding them insects, sugar water and honey.
