The Premium Modular Foundation Nest is a handmade, compact, and practical housing system for starting and small ant colonies. The nest combines a small plaster nest and an integrated outdoor area in one compact module, ensuring a young colony has everything within reach without being immediately placed in a nest that is too large.
Thanks to its compact size, the nest is particularly suitable for the initial developmental phase of a colony. At the same time, the modular design makes it easy to expand the system later when the colony requires more space.
Compact plaster nest
The foundation nest features a small nest section made of plaster. Plaster is highly suitable for ant nests because it can absorb moisture and gradually release it. This allows a suitable humidity level to be created within the nest section.
The compact nest surface prevents a small colony from immediately having too much nesting space. This makes the Premium Modular Foundation Nest ideal for young colonies that have their first workers and are slowly starting to grow further.
The transparent top ensures the nest remains clearly visible, so the development of the colony can be easily monitored.
Nest and the outside world in one
Immediately next to the plaster nest, there is an integrated outside world. As a result, the ants do not have to travel via long snakes to a separate arena to collect food.
In the outside world, suitable food, insects, seeds, or nectar can easily be offered, depending on the ant species. The compact design ensures that both the nest and the foraging area remain neatly together.
The complete system measures only 13 × 6 × 3 cm, so it takes up little space and can be easily installed.
Modularly expandable
The Premium Modular Foundation Nest is part of our modular nest series and is designed to grow with the colony.
The nest features a connection suitable for a 9 mm hose. This allows the system to be connected to, for example, an additional outdoor unit, nest module, or other suitable expansion.
Additionally, all nests in this modular series can be connected directly to each other using a matching connector. This allows, for example, this foundation nest to be coupled to a larger nest module from the same series later when the colony requires more space.
Furthermore, the outlets are equipped with practical valves, allowing the connection to be easily opened and closed. This allows you to keep an outlet closed until you actually want to connect a new module or hose.
In this way, a growing colony does not have to be immediately transferred to a completely new system, but the existing enclosure can be expanded step by step.
Ideal for starting colonies
A young ant colony usually does not yet need a large nest. A nest space that is too large can actually be impractical, for example, because unused chambers are used as waste storage.
The Premium Modular Foundation Nest therefore deliberately offers a small plaster nest with an adjacent outside world. The colony starts compact, and as soon as more space is needed, the modular system can be further expanded.
This makes the nest suitable as an intermediate step between the initial housing of a young colony and a larger, more extensive ant nest.
